The challenge was a way for me to close the book on my knee injury. It was a way for me to turn the page. My top goal was to finish the race. It would be my first time racing as an individual athlete in two and a half years.
The first three days..
..felt really hard physically. I was questioning if my body would hold up. The first checkpoint was chaos. So many folks were not continuing on. It took real grit to put the blinders on and get myself out of there.
Getting over the line
I ran about 150 miles with two other athletes. Sharing the miles meant sharing the unknowns and the stress. They are a large part of the reason I was able to get to the finish. It seemed to take forever, and then in an instant, with a touch of a wall, it's all over. At first, I thought I had enough. But as the physical pain faded, I've begun to dream about another go.
